Arrange a GP home visit
The best place to see a doctor or member of the clinical team is nearly always at the surgery. At the surgery we have the facilities, equipment and support to provide the best possible patient care. We have access to all your medical notes including your prescriptions and this greatly reduces the likelihood of errors.
In addition, home visits are very time consuming for our doctors. One home visit often takes the same amount of time as four or more appointments at the surgery. We have limited resources and have a duty to use them carefully.
As such home visits are only available to patients that are registered as housebound. Housebound means that a patient is completely unable to leave the house under any circumstances, even with the help of carers/family or transport provisions.
If you are requesting a home visit for yourself or your family member, please call reception before 10.30am. Most home visits are conducted at lunch time between 12:00pm and 3:00pm and requires planning amongst the team, which is why we ask that you contact the practice as soon as possible that day. A late request essentially means that you are asking the doctor to leave their afternoon surgery, at the expense of the patients that are already booked in to see them.
When making a request the reception staff will take some details and put the request to the attention of the duty doctor. The duty doctor will decide if/when a home visit is appropriate. Please be aware that we often have multiple requests each day and that they will be prioritised based on medical need. If a home visit is needed then you may be visited by a paramedic/nurse or a doctor.
We appreciate your support with keeping our surgery running smoothly and safely.
Notice
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.
